Abstract


The article considers the problem of the connections among  Kiev Rus’ and English kingdom in the XI century. The paper concludes that the relations between Kiev Rus’ and the English kingdom during XI century were permanent through the mediation of Vikings. The author makes an attempt to analyze political and marital relations between English royal Atheling dynasty and Ruriks’ royal house. The author describes the varangians role in the interests of Kiev Rus in the English kingdom.

In the first part the author studies the expulsion of English prince Edward the Exile in Kiev Rus’ and the role of the English prince in the foreign policy of Yaroslav the Wise. The author  analyzes  the German  and the Kievan version about ascend of the  Edward the Exile wife Agatha, in the context  of Yaroslav the Wise foreign policy.  The second part describes the causes of marriage between Vladimir Monomakh and Githa of Wessex. The author underlines the role of  close marital and political relation between Ruriks dynasty and Scandinavian royal houses in the case of marriage between English princes and Vladimir Monomakh.  The third part is devoted to the designation of the Vikings role in the relations between English kingdom and Kiev Rus’. The author concentrates attention on the connections between  Edward the Exile refuge in Kiev and marriage of Gytha of Wessex and Volodymyr Monomach.  The author figured out the role of the trade road “from Varangians to Greeks” for the connections between English kingdom and Kiev Rus’. The author concentrates attention on the role of Varangian mercenaries  in the permanent connections among English Kingdom and Kiev Rus’.
