The serpent-Perun from Novgorod and his analogies

E. B. Gruznova

In 1858 P. I. Yakushkin recorded near the Novgorod Perynsky skyt one legend about the serpent-Perun, which contains a number of archaic features that are important for the reconstruction of ancient mythological notions of Perun. Similar stories were reported in the Dnieper. In the folklore of the eastern Slavs generally recorded many traces of the cult of Perun. The whole of East Slavic folklore complex may be associated with the legends of the gods of thunder from other nations.
